Information Regarding the 2021 Certification Cycle

Submissions for the 2021 spring certification cycle are due no later than Tuesday, April 6th at 12:00 p.m. (noon). Set any action you want reviewed to “completed” and click the blue “submit” button.

  • If you can’t click the blue “submit” button (the website only allows submission if you completed at least one action per category and your submissions total at least 200 points, even though we welcome and review partially completed applications), OR

  • If you get an error message when trying to submit, THEN

Please e-mail info@sustainablect.org. At that point, no further action is needed. That e-mail will serve as documentation of your intent to submit before deadline, and we will then manually submit your application at a later time

If ready, we encourage you to submit your application a few days before the deadline.

Even if your application is still in progress, feel free to submit a partially completed application to receive feedback. If you don't earn certification in the spring cycle, you can use reviewer feedback on completed actions to revise your submission for a later certification cycle. There are two opportunities (spring and fall) to earn certification every year.

Physical Distancing and Sustainable CT Actions

Please view our list of Sustainable CT actions that help respond to the COVID-19 crisis and build long-term community resilience and sustainability. Wherever possible, Sustainable CT will honor creative approaches to implementing actions that acknowledge the need for physical distancing. For example, virtual sustainability events that otherwise meet the criteria of Sustainable CT Action Hold a Sustainability Event will be eligible to receive credit. Please clarify in your submission how your community may have adapted an action to the current pandemic context.

Certification of your Municipality

  • Register your community for Sustainable CT. There is no obligation to apply for certification in any timeframe.
  • After you register your community, begin work on Sustainable CT actions, and apply for certification when your municipality is ready.  Opportunities to apply for certification are offered twice annually.
  • Certification lasts for 3 years, from the beginning of the next calendar year. For example, for communities certified in spring or fall 2021, certification lasts until December 31, 2024.
  • For 2021 certification, you must complete at least one action in Sustainable CT’s new categories 1 - 11, including one or more Sustainable CT Equity Toolkits, and achieve the point thresholds listed above to receive either Bronze or Silver certification.
  • Many Sustainable CT actions have variable points, which means there are several ways to complete the action. All you need to do is achieve one of the designated point levels listed for that action to consider it complete. Of course, the more you do, the more points you earn.
  • If you choose to apply for certification in 2021, please note the key dates below. For submission dates, materials must be received no later than 12:00 p.m. Contact info@sustainablect.org for assistance with completing actions and applying for certification.
