Certification of your Municipality

  • Register your community for Sustainable CT. There is no obligation to apply for certification in the same year you register.
  • After you register your community, begin work on Sustainable CT actions, and apply for certification in any year your municipality is ready. Certification lasts for 3 years. For example, for communities certified in 2018, certification lasts until December 31, 2021.
  • You must complete one action from each of the nine action categories and achieve the point thresholds listed above to receive either Bronze or Silver certification. Many Sustainable CT actions have variable points, which means there are several ways to complete the action. All you need to do is achieve one of the designated point levels listed for that action to consider it complete. Of course, the more you do, the more points you earn.

  • If you choose to apply for certification in 2019, please note the key dates below. For submission dates, materials must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Contact certify@sustainablect.org for assistance with completing actions and applying for certification.

    • Early October 2018: Final decisions on certification levels by the Sustainable CT Certification Review Team.

    • October 30, 2018: Awards ceremony at the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities Annual Convention.

    • May 2, 2019 (encouraged): Optional submission deadline to receive initial feedback on actions completed. It is not necessary to submit actions in all categories. This review process is a great opportunity to receive feedback on any actions you have completed (even partially) and will help you prepare for the final application submission deadline in August.

    • August 30, 2019: Final submission deadline for the 2019 certification cycle.
