Connecticut's rental market is tumultuous, with rising rental costs, stagnant wages, and an increase in evictions, many residents are finding it difficult to find or keep affordable rental housing. Low-income households, especially those headed by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) are disproportionately impacted by the lack of safe, stable affordable housing. With an increasing number of households being squeezed out of the rental market, advocates and policymakers are working to support the implementation and expansion of tenants' rights protections.
This IForum will introduce the current protections available to tenants in Connecticut and explore the successes and challenges in implementation. The discussion will also explore best practices from other states. This is a vital conversation for all policymakers, service-providers, advocates, and tenants as we work to ensure everyone has access to safe, stable affordable housing.
